Adam Abel is a New York based filmmaker, editor and multimedia artist, and is the Director of Video for NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council). He has worked professionally for over 15 years as an editor, cinematographer, director, producer, photographer, and graphic designer. His storytelling and multimedia work has included projects for NRDC, Vox Media, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Inc, Brennan Center for Justice, Sony Pictures Classic, the Peabody Museum, and the Smithsonian.
Adam’s own creative practice includes producing and directing the feature length documentary, QALQILYA. As a photographer and installation artist, he has produced US and international exhibitions that work with large format photography, surveillance technology, live streaming video and multi-channel video environments. He and his work have been featured on CNN, NBC, Vice, and in the Huffington Post, the Daily Beast, and the cover of Haaretz.
His creative work has inspired lasting international impact projects. In 2013, while in production of QALQILYA, his footage secured funding for the construction of a state-of-the-art skate ramp in the West Bank of Palestine. In 2016, he and his partners founded the non-profit, SkateQilya, a skateboarding and educational programing teaching leadership and community building skills to Palestinian girls and boys.
Adam received his MFA in Photography and Related Media at Parsons, The New School for Design and his BA in Studio Art at Wesleyan University.
